The standard engine used is the famous Jaguar XK unit in 4.2
litre capacity, although at the owner's option either a 3.4
or 3.8 litre unit can be installed. The 4.2 engine is chosen
because it benefits from decades of development and is considered
to be more tractable and reliable than the earlier units, particularly
in the cooling department. |

| All
engines are fully reconditioned, blueprinted and balanced. The
cams have a mild "street" profile which improves performance
while retaining tractability. Triple Weber carburettors are
fitted with full flow air cleaners on a Tempero cast alloy inlet
manifold. |

| Extractor
exhaust headers are fitted, together with |
|
|
|
large diameter tail pipes (heat shields are fitted to the
headers to avoid overheating of the bonnet and subsequent
blistering of the paint). |

| Standard
power for the 4.2 litre engine is approximately 300bhp which
is sufficient to propel the 1000kg car to a stunning level of
performance. For those looking for ultimate performance virtually
any level of engine development is available to order (also
see notes under "racing options" at the end of this
section). |

To greatly improve drivability and performance on road or
track the standard gearbox is a Borg Warner all-syncho 5-speed
unit. However, for those who enjoy the vintage feel of an
original Moss gearbox, these are available as an option. The
flywheel is a Tempero manufactured aluminium unit whose low
inertia greatly enhances acceleration and overall responsiveness
of the engine. |

Jaguar's original D-Type had torsion bar front suspension which
was advanced for the 1950's, but technology has come a long
way since then. The Tempero D-Type's standard suspension is
a development over this original design with double wishbones,
coil springs over adjustable shock absorbers and an anti roll
bar.
Optionally, for those who wish to retain originality at the
expense of comfort and handling, Tempero's offers an original
style torsion bar suspension system that is available on specific
quotation. |
