The
success of the Lister
Knobbly led to further developments on the theme. For
1959 the body was revised to improve aerodynamics with a smooth
clean shape. The new body was designed by Frank Costin with
a total of eleven being built. However, only two of these
were powered by Jaguar, making the Costin Lister Jaguar one
of the rarest of the Jaguar racing specials of the period.

The
car presented here is a faithful reproduction of these famous
Costin-designed cars. Constructed by the artisans at Tempero
Coach and Motor Co. Ltd., it reflects the skills of a by-gone
era.

|
|
|
| As
with the original cars, the Tempero car is constructed with
a tubular space frame chassis with full aluminium bodywork.
This alloy shell is secured to the frame with quick-release
fasteners, giving access to all mechanical components in minutes. |
| Suspension
is independent all round, the front being Lister-style double
wishbones, coil springs over shock absorbers and a sway bar.
The rear features the quad shock absorber/spring setup found
on E-Types. Other Lister features include rack and pinion steering
and all round disk brakes, inboard at the rear. |
|
|
 |
| The
alloy body was removed and every mechanical component removed
from the chassis. The chassis frame was checked for perfect
alignment, then media blasted and painted. |
|
 |
 |
 |
 |
 |
|
| The
body restoration comprised of stripping every panel to component
level and checking for fatigue or cracking. The outer panels
were found to be in immaculate condition, with no sign of any
accident damage – unusual in a car that has spent its
life racing! The full-length belly pan was somewhat scratched
and dented and so was completely replaced. The body was then
repainted in Lister’s famous racing colours of BRG with
a yellow stripe. |
